Ultimate Frisbee
Laura and I took the plunge and joined a North-London Ultimate
Frisbee team. The league we play in is pretty standard Ultimate,
not like what I'm used to playing in Guelph. Which is a
non-competitive, 5 players per side, time-limited game. These games
are 7 players per side, and you play up to 15 points. Which makes for
very long games. We were only at 13 points after an hour and forty
minutes when we called the game due to darkness.

Our Team is made up of mostly experienced players who play on traveling
teams, so our team is good. Also fairly competative, not at the expense
of being fun, but they certainly try to win. After every point they
discuss the strategy for the next point, and they are complex, everyone
has a role in every point. Which is odd for me, because my team in
Guelph didn't hold too much emphasis on strategy, in fact we have a
cheer that we would use from time to time "Strategy-Shmadegy!"

Traditionally, in Canada, after every game, each team comes up with a
cheer or a song for the other team. Just a little something to keep
things light and friendly. Here everyone gathers in a circle, and the
two capitains make speeches! How weird is that? Very British.

It was Laura's first game ever and she did amazingly well. Everyone
was mentioning how well she did. We both are pretty stiff-legged
today but I was always pretty stiff after Ultimate, so nothing new.
Afterwards we went out for "Drinkies" at the local pub. Very standard
little British pub, which oddly enough has quite a complete Thai food
menu. We both ordered Pad-Thai.
