Laura and Kevin on the Front Page!
The day of the bombing we received a lot of phone calls from friends
and family ensuring that we were ok. One of the calls was from our
friend's father who asked us if we'd mind speaking with a reporter
from the Guelph Mercury. Apparently she was looking for people from
Guelph who are living in London to give their story. We agreed and we
received a phone call within a few minutes.
We both had relatively benign stories. Laura made it to work without
incident before the bombings occurred, and I sat on the couch while
the whole thing was going on. What made it front page material is
that I mentioned that I cancelled an appointment that would have
brought me through Edgware station on the Circle Line at a little
after 9:00am on Thursday morning, *potentially* putting me in harms
way.
In any case, last Friday's edition of the Guelph Mercury had a photo
of Laura and I (which I emailed to them) right under the mast-head on
the front page, with the headline, "Spared from subway terror:
Appointment change kept Guelph grad away from London bombing." On the
second page, their is a sub heading that said "Terror: Canadian spreads
news with weblog".
Here are pdf's of the front page and the second page of Friday's paper.
Ya gotta love it.
Update July 12, 8:40pm GMT
G and Katherine told us that apparently our article was also in the
Kitchener/Waterloo Record! It would make some sense because the two
papers are under the same ownership. Someone is trying to get us a copy.
